This Agave lurida 'Variegata' in my FL garden has sent up a flower stalk that looks like a giant asparagus. Agaves are in the plant family called Asparagaceae, as is Asparagus officinalis, which is the garden asparagus that we eat! Unfortunately , the stalks of the agaves are too tough and fibrous to be eaten like asparagus spears.
